about me

My name is Becca Mulenburg. My work is representational. Landscapes, people, wildlife, and places I've visited interest me, because it's what I know and where I've been. Currently, I work exclusively with oils. Colors can be adjusted, forms can be altered, and my paintings can evolve, sometimes unexpectedly and without intention. All art requires work, whether it’s composition, lighting, color, tonal balance, or mood. But when these all work together effortlessly, that’s when I’ve felt the most fulfilled. I cannot predict when this will happen, as each painting takes on a life of its own.  Each has its own set of rules, its own timeline, so to speak. This looseness of how the art wants me to interpret it goes until the work is complete.

I paint the world that surrounds me and sometimes there are subjects that draw me in more than others. Usually, the intensity is strongest when the subject has afforded an unshakeable presence. One could say the feeling can sometimes be persistent, and there is great joy when I've captured that feeling in a painting. As far as my subjects go, I gravitate towards the non-meditative experience, those that are void of hidden messages or meanings. If you see hidden messages or meanings in my paintings, let me know, for I might become quite concerned for myself.

Okay, enough of that mumbo jumbo.
